Your Basic Home Bar Liquor List
What kind of liquor list does a proper home bar require? Or in other words, what’s in your home bar's liquor cabinet? We asked ourselves these questions: If you were to stock a mini-bar in your home, what are the required items and what are the items you probably should stock, but aren't necessarily necessary? We included some condiments and mixers as well. Here is the list we came up with that would best stock your home bar with the liquor products you would need most. - Brandy
- Gin
- Vodka
- One or More Flavored Vodka(s)
- Kahlua
- Whiskey (Canadian?)
- Scotch
- Grenadine
- Creme de Cacao
- Whiskey (Jameson or Powers)
- Minimum One Quality Scotch
- Triple Sec
- Tequila
- Rum (a dark and a light)
- Sherry
- Sweet Vermouth
- Champagne
- Angostura Bitters
- Lemons, Limes, Cherries
- Sugar, Salt
There are, of course, other liquor ingredients and items not listed above. You’ll need cream for White Russians and Brandy Alexanders… You’ll need tomato juice bases and Tabasco Sauce if you like Bloody Marys, etc. But the above list of liquors and condiments ought to be a good enough start for most any home bar. As for the quality of the liquors of this liquors list, you really want to stock middle-quality liquors. In other words, don't go too cheap on the booze, and don't go too expensive either (unless you can afford it). Smirnoff Vodka, Jose Cuervo Tequila, Bicardi Rum, Johnny Walker (red or black) Scotch, and Gordon's Gin are all good examples of quality liquors that take it easy on the wallet. Don't feel that you need to include every kind of liquor on the list, as you might not like one or more of them. I personally do not like gin, so I have a tendency to let it run out sometimes. Just remember that it is your home bar first, so it has to be your liquor list first as well. Cover most of your bases and you'll be fine.
