Pub Design for a Traditional Friendly Atmosphere
Pub Design for your home bar is traditional bar theme that can be more than just putting in some old looking pub furniture and calling it a day.
Thise design themes can also be made very simple and still be very "classy" at the same time. Before deciding on whether an English Pub or an Irish Pub Design look and feel suits you the best, grab a pint of beer and check out these design ideas.
Let's look at some of the differences between the two bar design themes. Most of us are not able to incorporate all the aspects of these designs, but by picking out a few you will be very surprised how "authentic" your pub can feel.
Although both designs are very traditional, both in the pub furniture used and in the designs themselves, an Irish pub usually is generally a little more rustic or casual than an English pub.
Traditional Irish pub design usually consists of a very nice bar with brass railings and Harp and Guinness Beer on tap to be sure. But the rest of the pub is a little different. In a traditional Irish pub, there is usually a solid, bench table where many friends can gather together. There are also smaller pub tables and chairs throughout, or possibly a few booths, but the large table is where the "regulars" meet every day.
The walls are usually smoke-stained and the cealings have massive wood beams stretching across the room.
Decorations in an Irish pub usually consist of Guinness Ale and Harp Lager pictures and mirrors. You'll find Celtic shields and banners with Celtic writing. There's always at least one dart board on the wall. And there is always a very small stage for a little live music that almost always seems to be played.
Probably the main key to Irish pub design is there is nothing really "designed" or put together with a great deal of thought. That's not to say there isn't a great deal of charm, because there is. The main atmosphere comes from the people in the pub.
Choosing a traditional English Pub as your design theme is similar to the Irish in many ways, but completely different and with a character all its own.
An English pub design usually has a "cleaner" look. Everything is organized and put together with a specific design in mind. Very sturdy pub tables and chairs are the pub furniture of choice.
As with the Irish pubs, there is usually a nice big solid bar with brass foot railings and padded armrests. There are nice pub towels as placemats on the bar. The beer on tap is different also, and with many selections such as Bass Ale, Newcastle, and other English Beers. Guinness Ale is usually represented as well (because it is THAT good, I suppose). Pint glasses are within easy reach.
An English pub design has classical artwork on the wall. Maybe there are pictures or paintings of other famous pubs in nice big frames. Or maybe there are big nice pub mirrors in a particular design pattern. Anyway, the whole idea is to make an English pub design which is not stuffy, but very organized.
The key to either the Irish or the English pub design is to acquire items with that traditional look to them. Visit a pub (Even in the US there are plenty of good ones everywhere.) and make mental notes about what you see and start acquiring items for your pub. You'll find that as you start putting them into your design, your home pub will start to take on the look of the real thing.
The most important pub design idea is to always pur yourself a pint of beer before you start designing a pub so you'll get in the right frame of mind.
I heard a great quote the other day and it went something like this:
"I read where drinking was bad for you so I quit reading."
